We loved welcoming the wonderful couple behind Lifestyle Travellers to our heritage railway here in Tasmania! π
Perfectly capturing the nostalgia, and magic of stepping back in time on our trains. Thereβs nothing quite like the wind in your hair and the rhythm of the rails beneath you.
Thank you for visiting and sharing your journey with us β it was an absolute pleasure to have you, and we hope to see you again!
There's nothing like the sound of our diesel Y6 waking up the valley. The rumble, the shake, the first burst of powerβ¦ it means weβre getting ready to roll for another big week.
Weβre open for train rides this Thurs β Sun, 10am - 2pm. Come down, explore the site, and enjoy a run along the river.
And if youβre planning a big weekend of steam and diesel: Sheffield Steam & Heritage Centre is just 25 minutes south of Devonport, so you can easily visit us at Don River and ride their train on the same day this Sat & Sun. Double the trains, double the fun. ... See MoreSee Less
BEYOND CITY PARK: "HUTCH" ARRIVEBEYOND CITY PARK: "HUTCH" ARRIVES AT DON! ποΈπ
Today marks a massive milestone for the Don River Railway. After 36 years as a familiar face in Launcestonβs City Park, locomotive U3 has been successfully lifted and relocated to its new home here in Don!
A MAMMOTH TEAM EFFORT A job this size takes a village. A huge thank you to our lead volunteers, Andrew Skinner (DRR Board Councillor) and John Myers, who spent countless hours on prep and logistics. We are also incredibly grateful to every volunteer who helped on-site, and to Clynton Brown for his generous donation of his water pump containing the remains of sister locomotive U4, whose engine will be used in the long term restoration of U3.
COMMUNITY COLLABORATION We couldn't have done it without these fantastic partners: City of Launceston Official for donating this icon of Tasmanian rail history. Cranes Combined for the precision heavy lifting. Gradco for handling the expert transport and logistics. LIGHTNING BIN HIRE: For the essential site support.
WE WANT YOUR PHOTOS! πΈ Whether itβs a shot of U3 working the yards in the 80s or a family photo of your kids playing on "Hutch" in the park, please share them in the comments!
π CHECK THE PINNED COMMENT FOR THE STORY BEHIND "HUTCH" AND THE FULL HISTORY OF U3!
