ON TRACK The DON RIVER
RAILWAY (2004)
(Tas
Steam Alive videos)
The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc was formed in the early 1970s. After basing themselves at Don, near Devonport, the group relaid a section of railway between Don Township and Coles Beach, opening to the public as the Don River Railway in November 1976. Following the restoration of steam locomotive MA2 the group began excursion tours on the main lines of Tasmania in 1986. From this start the railway has now built up considerable expertise, running tours with a wide variety of motive power over every available line and catering for all tastes.
This
DVD
shows some early days at Don, and then covers over 40 rail trips in
various places around the state. Footage comes mainly from the video
archives of Tas Steam Alive, sourced from over one hundred VHS, S-VHS,
Hi-8 and Digital tapes and includes many scenes not previously used,
and some scenes from tapes long out of production. All footage has been
digitized and computer edited. Running time 115 minutes. Available as
PAL DVD 4:3 format.
Price $35
